SPRING BREAK 2017 | LA + PASADENA

LA, you captured my heart for the second time. our whole trip to california was amazing, but the days we spent exploring los angeles were really special. i'd only been there once before on a college visit, so it was awesome to return + be able to have time to do whatever we felt like doing! we started off the trip with allllll the touristy things - hollywood boulevard, warner brother's studio tour, etc. all i can say is that the tour was one of the greatest things i have ever done in my life + i'm not ashamed to say it! movie magic is real, you guys. if you get a chance to tour the WB studios, DO IT. it's the coolest.

spring break 2017 part 1-4.jpg

we drove around in these little 15-person carts as our tour guide showed us the different sets. it's actually a huge lot, + it's crazy to think about just how many people work in those 142 acres!

^^^ this photo might not mean anything to you, but this is the spot they used for the scene in gilmore girls when rory hits a deer with her car on the way to chilton. my sister + fangirled [i hate that word, but it's true] hard --- so freakin' cool!

ryan gosling stood on this very set, so we're kinda like BFF's now, it's no big deal. but seeing the lala land set in person was another amazing experience! we also got to see multiple gilmore girls spots [including the stars hollow town square, which is actually used for like 1000 different productions] and fuller house shooting locations.

we also got to walk around the giant prop warehouse where directors and set designers can come and tag items they want to use for their movies! often they'll use codenames like "titanic" as to keep the details of their movie a secret, which was really interesting see.

spring break 2017 part 1-39.jpg

aaaaaand the famous, long-awaited friends couch! would you take me seriously if i said that maybe the whole reason we went on this tour was to sit on this piece of furniture? THE COOLEST. yes, it is the real couch, which made the whole experience like a million times more awesome. all in all, if you have the chance to take this tour - DON'T pass it up.

one of our favorite stops on the trip was after's ice cream. they have locations all throughout california, but we went to the one in pasadena. the ice cream was amazing + the toppings were the cherry on top [pun intended ;)] - i highly recommend.

the morning after afters [ha!], we thought we'd balance out the ice cream cones with some healthy juice aka. juice served here, which was luckily right around the corner from our hotel! i'd only been there once two years ago, + it's changed so much, but only for the better! they serve food now, so it's perfect if you want juice + breakfast in the morning or a snack in the afternoon!

we also stopped in intelligentsia to get a bit of food + caffeine to compliment our juice. they had so many different pastries - we got a churro croissant + a matcha croissant. as you can probably tell from the photos, they were delicious.

okay --- from one pastry to the next! [i'm beginning to feel like these CA posts will basically be food journals #noshame] california donuts will forever be one of my favorite locations on the entire earth, i'm not exaggerating.

^^^ peeps. donut.

AND A REESES DONUT ARE YOU KIDDING ME OKAY YES CALIFORNIA DONUTS I LOVE YOU

we took our donuts to the beach, layed around all morning, got way to sunburnt, + explored santa monica pier. no one in my family had ever been to the pier before, so it was super fun to just walk around, explore, + be tourists. it also made for the best pictures!

^^^ all the sibs in one photo + i'm kinda obsessed with it. that light flare!!

after our day at the beach, we packed up + said our goodbyes to LA. am i narcissistic for posting multiple pictures of myself + our travels? hahah i don't care! + also how amazing is my backpack from atlas supply co?! more on that later, friends! plus, part two + three of our CA spring break recap will be up soon - stay tuned!

p.s. you're a BOSS for making it all the way down here! i promise the other two recaps will be shorter. maybe, idk. ;)

ROADTRIP PLAYLIST | SPRING

playlist-2.jpg

isn't it crazy how everyone has some type of music they enjoy? i've never met, let alone heard of, someone who "hates" music. now, that might just be because i'm surrounded by the right kind of people, but seriously, music it so much bigger that it seems. it has the power to make you feel things out of the ordinary + you can tailor your music choices to any situation. speaking of that, in preparation for our upcoming trip to california, my sister claire + i created a playlist with only a few things in mind: the sun, the sand, the salty coast, + no worries. click here or scroll down to listen to our   C A L I F O R N I A  roadtrip playlist - spring edition. i'm maybe thinking of making this into a series... a roadtrip playlist for every season. i''m kinda feelin' it. who knows. for now, enjoy this curated batch of 100 of the best springtime songs.

GALENTINE'S DAY BRUNCH 2017

anyone who has a decently large group of friends knows it's basically impossible to make plans. thankfully, my favorite group of ladies were able to get together for a little galentine's day brunch [we were only missing one person - missed you zoe!] with a little help from the schedule gods + eventbrite! chocolate chip pancakes, banana muffins with cream cheese frosting, donuts, fresh fruit [to make us feel healthy], rosemary potatoes, + more was on the menu for the morning, + i can confirm that it all tasted just as amazing as it looked.

if you follow along on instagram, you might've heard i'm currently doing the whole30  --- which may or may not have been paused so i could eat one of those donuts...

did you throw a party or celebrate galentine's day in some way this year? how did you manage your invites? with eventbrite's online registration software, all the invitation details are simplified + reduced so you can be stress free! for me, that meant more time prepping + less time frantically running around like a crazy person, hahah!

happy gal/valentine's day! i hope you're spending it with someone [or something ---hello left-over donuts!] you love.

THE HAPPIEST PLACE

a few weekends ago we escaped to the happiest place on earth - disney world! we crammed as many rides, foods, + memories as we could into what seemed like the longest-but-shortest 72 hours ever! in between adventures, we snapped just enough photos and too just enough videos to get us by ;) starting from the top - here we go!

everytime we've been to disney, my family has stayed at the coronado springs resort and WE   L O V E   IT!!!! [when my sister + i got there the first night, i literally yelled "i'm home!"] it's got the coolest ancient myan/spanish archetecture and it brings back so many childhood memories from when we stayed there years ago.

the first morning in disney, we woke up super early to the prettiest fog! ^^^

MICKEY WAFFLES! don't even get me started. possibly the best thing about the enitre trip. kidding. [not]

the first ride of the trip was expedition everest at animal kingdom [basically the only reason we go there, haha!] we also passed through dinoland on our way out - one of the best mini-rides is in there. triceratop spin for the win!

once we had our fix of animal kingdom, we headed over to hollywood studios, and straight to the tower of terror. [best ride eveeeeeeeeer!]

disney world 2017-18.jpg

my dad is a natural with the camera - he's got raw talent, folks! ^^^

we didn't get a chance to ride the great movie ride, but every time i saw the sign, i cried just a little bit. you can't go wrong with neon + that color combo.

these mickey ice cream bars are soooo good + kind of an insode joke in my family. every time the kids used to go off on a ride during previous trips, my dad would sneak away and buy himself one of these bad boys. he'd end up eating like four in a day, sometimes haha!

there's that sign again... =) ^^^

disney parks always have the best restaurants, and this one is one of our favorites. if you're ever looking for a dinner spot in hollywood studios, the 50's prime time cafe is where it's at!

for our second [and last] full day, we headed to magic kingdom.

right around lunchtime, claire and  hunted down the dole stand like it was our job. it was both of our first times trying the pineapple whip + i can truly say that it lived up to it's hype!

anyone who's been to disney world [or disneyland - not sure of they have this there] do you guys trade pins? my family discovered this around 2010ish, and everytime we've been back, we do it! if you're not familiar with it, you basically buy and lanyard and pins [genius money-making tactics, those disney execs!] and you can trade pins with employees or other park-goers! it's actually pretty fun!

we spent our last night watching an insane fireworks show above cinderella's castle. i may or may not have teared up... [#noshame] we seriously had the most magical time, even though we were only there for about 72-ish hours. don't forget to watch the video, too! happy friday!

TWENTY SIXTEEN

i'm continuing my tradition of looking back through all the videos we took during the year + the posts i wrote for the blog and gather up my favorites into a big ol' year-in-review! we did a lot - travel, family get togethers, + more, somehow fit into 366 days [thanks leap year!] here are some of my favorite memories!
