CHICAGO DOUGHNUT CRAWL

guuyyyyyyyys!! we did coffee, we did ice cream, + now... it's time for donuts!! my friends claire, sarah, + i ran all around chicago to find the best donuts + tell you all about them! [even if you didn't want to know - haha!] i hope you'll watch the video of our whole adventure! you can also find a written review below :) happy national donut day friends!

THE DOUGHNUT VAULT

our first stop of the day was the doughnut vault! we made sure to go here first because once the donuts sell out, they're gone for the day! they have two locations, so that helps maximize your chances of getting donuts - we went to their franklin street one. it's a nice little walk in space with seating outside only, so in the wintertime things get a little challenging. the doughnut vault also switches up their donut flavors daily, + keeps you updated on twitter! the sales guys there was super nice + offered us extra donuts when we told him what we were up to for the day. overall, we rated the doughnut vault a solid 4/5!

DO-RITE DONUTS

our second stop was do-rite donuts. it was a little harder to find - we used apple maps for navigation + due to it being located in the heart of the city, siri had a little trouble getting us to the exact location with all the buildings blocking the signal. the parking situation is also a bit difficult, so be prepared to walk a block or two. as far as the donuts go, they were really great -- they have a lot of good gluten free options too! overall, we rated do-rite donuts a 3.5/5.

THE DAPPER DONUT

the third place we tried was the dapper donut! they were previously called beavers donuts, + it still shows up that way on navigation. these donuts are mini + super good! i've had mini donuts before, but these guys were different! a little bit crunchy. there are a ton of different flavors to choose from, + you can either get 4, 6, or 12 mini donuts in a package. it's also inside a cute little french market that i've never seen before! the ordering process is a little difficult, but we all really liked the dapper donut. overall, we rated the dapper donut a 4/5.

BOMBO BAR

for our fourth stop, we went to bombo bar -- you may have seen bombo mentioned in our chicago ice cream crawl! i have said it before + will say it again - bombo bar is definitely one of the most instagramable places in chicago! as for their donuts, they're more like decorated fried doughs, but worth it if you're looking for those like-worthy social media posts! overall, we rated bombo bar a 3/5.

STAN'S DONUTS

Screen Shot 2018-05-31 at 1.23.22 PM.png

our fifth + final stop was stan's donuts! i have always loved stan's, + i snag a donut from them almost every time i'm in the city. we went to their wicker park location, but they have a decent amount of other locations all around the city! one thing that really makes stan's stick out is the offering of [really good] gluten free + vegan donuts - they really accommodate for different dietary restrictions. they also sell bagels, coffee, tea, gelato milkshakes, + more. overall, we rated stan's donuts a 4.8/5.

ON A MISSION | A GUIDE TO SAN FRANCISCO'S MISSION DISTRICT

hi! my name is molly! + i really suck at posting about things after they happen! but now that i have a reasonable amount of free time again, i decided it was time to buckle down + get this guide posted! a few months ago for spring break, i headed up to san francisco to visit some friends. while there, we took one day to explore the mission district + we were NOT disappointed :) even though it took me a few weeks to get it all together, here is the guide, complete with a video!

squarespace divider.jpg

ritual coffee roasters

we started off the morning with a stop at ritual coffee for some snacks + fuel for our day of exploring. they've got the cutest interior with pretty natural light + a gorgeous neon display hanging over head. the coffee ain't so bad, either :) it was reasonably crowded in there, even on a thursday, but we didn't have to wait long at all for our drinks.

on a mission-25.jpg

benny gold

once we finished with our coffee, we headed down the street just to see what we could find, + stumbled upon benny gold! when we first walked in, we were overcome with the amazing smell of homemade chai. this place sells all different odds + ends, clothing, bowling gear, + homemade chai lattes + coffee! sadly we were already sufficiently caffenated, but the smell alone almost made us reach for a new cup!

on a mission-6.jpg
on a mission-38.jpg

after life

the next place we stopped was after life, a cute + high-end resale shop. we had a lot of fun browsing around -- there were a lot of great pieces in there. all these places are on valencia street, which is one of the things that makes the mission district so great! these stores all basically all right next to each other, so once you are finished exploring one, you go out + right back in to another next door!

on a mission-34.jpg

dog eared books

we stopped in here just to take a look around [+ smell that amazing new book smell, haha!] it turned out to be the cutest little store for photos! if i had enough time around then, i would have definitely searched for a new read! does anyone else look at the cover art + then read the synopsis on the inside? so much for not judging a book by its cover, haha!

on a mission-54.jpg
on a mission-55.jpg

ampersand

this place has been on my "must visit" list for years + i'm so happy i finally got a chance to visit it! i didn't have any reason to buy flowers, but their open door studio is just gorgeous + it smells amazing! there were a few people in there + it seemed like them most amazing atmosphere. they didn't mind us taking photos in there either, which was really nice :)

on a mission-68.jpg

little paper planes shop

this place is the cutest! so many fun treasures, the prettiest white space, + the nicest owner! she talked to my friend + i for a while + we found out that she hosts classes in the back space! if you're local to SF, you need to check this place out!

on a mission-63.jpg
on a mission-72.jpg

tacolicious

a few days before adventuring around the mission district, i was visiting my friend lauren in san jose + she introduced me to tacolicious! when natalie + i passed by one in SF, we had to stop by for lunch! [it's seriously so good that i'm craving it right now as i type this ha!] the atmosphere is so great, they have amazing drinks, + THEIR. TACOS. the definition of to die for. i got a fried avocado one + one with shredded chicken + grapefruit aioli + they were both incredibly amazing.

on a mission-81.jpg

boba guys

after lunch, we stumbled upon a boba guys. i had heard of it before but had never tried it, so we stopped in! we have a local boba place near school that everyone loves to go to, so it was fun to grab boba in a new place! it might just have to be a new tradition :) anyway, the boba was super good. + the line was out the door!

clarion street alley murals

kinda sketchy, but wooooorth it. the artwork is so pretty + really ranges in style. make sure to keep a close eye on your stuff + walk back out to valencia street when you leave - one block over is a bit dangerous. we learned this the hard way but it was okay! sadly just a lot of the homeless population is congregated around the mission district.

on a mission-50.jpg

smitten ice cream

if you've been reading this blog for a while, or knew me remotely at all, you'd know that i never pass up a chance to et ice cream, especially when it's smitten!! i can't remember exactly what flavor it was, but it definitely had something to do with peanut butter ;) i splurged on a waffle cone, because, ya know, you're only in the mission district once! [okay not true but it works as a good excuse you know!?]

so that's it! that's the gist of our day in the mission district! we stopped at a few other places + wanted to stop at a few other places, but ran out of time! so i thought i'd list out some honorable mentions below :) let me know if you've been to/are planning to visit any of these places soon, + what you think!

STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM FOREVER

strawberry fields forever? try strawberry ice cream forever! MY/MO mochi ice cream [in the ripe strawberry flavor of course!] is the perfect summer snack, morning noon + night! i've worked with MY/MO before, + i seriously love them, + so does my family! they're so fun to eat, taste amazing, + are perfect for every occasion - from a simple lunch at home to graduation parties to movie nights. have you had mochi ice cream before? let me know your thoughts!! + be sure to check out MY/MO here! happy wednesday! :)

SUNDAY DONUTS + BALBOA BEACHES

sidecar balboa_-13.jpg

donuts + beaches. maybe the most amazing way to spend a sunday. i used to resent them when i was younger, mainly because i was always told they were supposed to be a day of rest, but never were. i'd run from church, back home, to rehearsal, back home, + back to church again, fitting in homework where i could. but now that i'm older, they've become a day still filled with homework + studying, but also of fun adventures + friends. a few weekends ago, my friends + i heard that steffany gretzinger would be speaking at a church down in orange county, so we cleared our sunday + made a day out of it.

this is gonna be a photo overload, but there were just too many good photos [that came from three different cameras!] to narrow it down to just a few! after not adventuring off of campus is a while, we couldn't hold ourselves back from snapping the shutter :)

sidecar balboa_-2.jpg
sidecar balboa_-3.jpg

after listening to one of the most amazing messages i've ever heard [steffany gretzinger is seriously amazing you guys], we headed on over to sidecar donuts. YOU GUYS - i'd heard of sidecar's famous donuts for a while, but was never able to make it down to try them out. thankfully i made it, because they were so good.

sidecar balboa_-6.jpg

after freaking out over sidecar's unbeatable donuts, we hopped back into the car + took a short drive down to balboa to walk around the beach + the streets. [+ of course take more photos]

micky balboa-6.jpg

see what i mean with all the cameras?!

how are my friends such BABES - i seriously don't deserve them!

the sunsets have to be at the very top of my LA FAVES list -- at least the smog is good for something amirite?!

if you made it down here to the bottom - i love you + you're my new hero. give yourself a round of applause!! but see what i mean with the pictures though? soooo many, haha! but nevertheless i'm glad that i have them all to remember this adventure by. donut, beaches, + babe friends are a combination that can't be topped. happy tuesday!

TWENTY SEVENTEEN

i know, i know -- it's the end of february + i'm just now getting around to sharing the 2017 recap film. it's the thought that counts people! plus, when i first started this tradition in 2015 i shared in march, so i'm still beating that!! anyway. life has been off to a crazy busy start this 2018, but i wouldn't change it for a thing. i had fallen into a bit of a creative rut these first few weeks, but i can feel myself climbing out of the hole + i cannot wait to be back! i've some good stuff coming soon. anyway, let's get into the 2017 recap -- my favorite posts, the most popular posts, + some of my favorite memories are highlighted below in chronoligical order. + just a quick note before we get into it, i want to thank you all for being here. i serioously love every one of you who have followed along + continue to do so. i can't wait for the rest of 2018 + all the goodness it'll bring =) -- okay let's recap!

do i even need words? no? okay - good because i don't have any, except these: "disney is 100% the happiest place on earth + i could cry just thinking about being there".

galentine's day brunch

galentines+brunch+2017-14.jpg
static1.squarespace-1.jpg

THIS. this was one of the first gatherings i had ever hosted by myself - i'm talking brainstorming, prep, cooking, invites, etc. it was definitely one of the best days, + i miss my gals so much it hurts! can't wait to have many more brunches, lunches, dinners, + parties in the future =)

spring break part one - watch the film here

los angeles. this trip holds a special place in my heart, especially because i live here now! but also because claire + i shot a film for atlas supply co [watch it here!], which was HUGE for me. it was my first big collab + took a lot of guts for me to hit the send button on the proposal email. but seriously, this trip was one of the best memories from 2017, along with part two, below! we also visited california donuts, which makes my life every time ;)

spring break part two - watch the film here

static1.squarespace-2.jpg

carmel + monterey, quite possibly heaven on earth. i can still remember the smell of the flowers, it was that amazing. we only got to stay one night here, but mark my words - i will be back!

backyard graduation party - watch the film here

static1.squarespace-1.jpg

anytime my family gets together is a good time. i was so blessed to have friends + extended family come from all over to celebrate my graduation + supporting me through to my next step education wise!

styling with scarves

THIS BAD BOY was a fan favorite! i had tons of friends on instagram tell me how much they loved the film, + i can safely say i had just as much fun filming + creating it. with the help of my friend sarah, we were able to have a fun afternoon + got to create just for the sake of creating. =)

the fourth of july - watch the film here

this tradition has been going on for about three years now, + each time it gets a little better. like i said before, anytime family gets together is the BEST. [i'm so lucky to have family that i actually want to spend time with ;) - haha, jk!] it's also so fun to reflect back on our times at the lake over the summer, especially now, since i'm so far away!

t+t's chicago ice cream crawl - watch the film here

static1.squarespace.jpg

probably one of my favorite posts from 2017. i loved doing T+T's chicago coffee crawl in 2016, + thought it was definitely time to do another, but this time with ice cream! so overnight, we gathered our team together, searched for the best scoops, + gained a few calories, ha!

chili lime watermelon recipe

static1.squarespace-5.jpg

also one of my favorite posts, this insanely amazing recipe was inspired by my trip to the taste of chicago. a snack i ate all throughout the summer!

diy pom pom dangle earrings

pom+earrings+model+shots-7.jpg

OKAY I KNOW I'VE SAID THIS FOR ABOUT EVERY ONE BUT THIS IS ACTUALLY PROBABLY MY NUMER ONE FAVORITE POST EVER. i love it so much that i had to type in all caps for a sec. forget the fact that it took me like 8 months to actually post it, + instead just look at those photos! my freakin' babe friends make the earrings look so good don't they? go make some for yourself like rn!

the museum of ice cream

static1.squarespace.jpg

no words for this magical place, either! even to this day, i'm still in disbelief that i even snagged tickets, + i'm so happy that i was able to go with one of my best friends since birth! i've heard that their SF location + miami location are even better then the LA one -- anyone down for a cross country roadtrip?

garvin family christmas - watch the film here

+ lastly, the 2017 garvin family christmas. being in california away from my family, i missed a lot of holiday traditions because i was so far away [obviously], so it was so fun to finally have a month off + reconnect with friends + family during the holiday.

squarespace divider.jpg

all in all, 2017 brought on a lot of amazing, irreplaceable memories, but also lots of change. i moved across the country, learned how to live on my own, made new friends, kept taking photos, grew my brand, + upped my film game by like a million. i can't wait to take everything that i learned from this past year + utilize it this year to further learn + grow. thank you again for being here + supporting me - i love you all! happy [february] 2018!
